3 Simple Tips for an Easy Move
Posted on: February 22, 2020 | by: admin

Moving can seem like a complicated task, but if you have a proper guide to follow, it can really reduce some of the hassle! We want to make sure you do not forget some of the major tasks when it comes to moving, so we have gathered some moving tips for you to keep in mind during the process.
The guide is organized by three different categories. The first category is all about what to do in your home to prepare for your move. There are also a number of tasks to complete when you are in your new home and community, so that will be the second category. Lastly, we have a category for moving companies. We hope this organization helps you sort out your moving trip!
In Your Home
Packing and Organizing
Create three categories for your items. These categories should be for things you want to keep in your new home, things to store away in a self-storage unit, and things to get rid of. For the ‘get rid of’ pile, you can further separate the items by things that may have potential to sell, and things that you need to donate right away. You can sell apparel and shoes on sites such as Poshmark and Mercari, or you can even set up a garage sale to sell anything that you feel may hold value for others. But before you do this, please make sure to check your basement, attic and closets for other items you can sell! Many people tend to forget to look in these areas. After the garage sale, you can donate anything that did not sell.
It is also important to ensure the safety of your items and have them organized for your convenience. Dispose of any inflammable items such as fireworks and matches. When packing boxes, make sure they are labeled ‘fragile’, ‘load first’, ‘load last’ and ‘do not load’. This is the best way to pack for moving if you want to save time and energy! Here is a generous list of additional moving and packing tips which can ease your burden.
Keeping your moving date in mind, try not to buy too many groceries that can easily perish during the move. It might be helpful to just order takeout on the last few days, or buy groceries that you know you will finish before the move. It is important that you empty, defrost, and clean your refrigerator at least a day in advance!
On Moving Day
If you have young children, you should arrange a babysitter for their safety. Turn off all lights in all of the rooms, and also thoroughly check your closets, drawers, shelves, attic, and garage to make sure you got everything! You do not want to accidentally leave any valuables behind.
New Home and Community
New Home
While unloading, make sure that no items are missing, and that there is no damage. Also make sure your utilities are connected. If you are moving to a new state, you will need to renew your driver’s license. Do not forget to revise your other legal papers as well.
New Community
Before you move to your new area, you can go on Google Street View to get familiar with the area. You can go on the Local Chamber of Commerce’s site to find out about schools, parks, and community programs. It is also important to locate important destinations such as hospitals, police stations, and fire stations near your new home.
Moving Companies
You want to start inquiring about the various moving companies in your area early, about a month before your move. Get estimates from several moving companies and compare prices. Here are 7 things to look for in a moving company. Make sure you keep a file with all moving related expenses! You will thank yourself later. You will also need to confirm that there will be someone to direct the movers on moving day to avoid any confusion. Lastly, don’t forget to tip your movers for their hard work!
