Happy spring! We hope you are just as excited to transition into spring as we are because today we are bringing you some tips on how to prep your home for this wonderful season! We want to help our readers create a beautiful home that reflects the joy of spring and leave no traces of the gloomy winter season behind.
This post will not only remind you of the forgettable areas in your home that you should clean, but also some inexpensive ideas on how to make your home more bright and cheerful. This may involve storing some of your items away, so it might be a good idea for you to check out our Storage Unit Size Guide to see what option of self-storage will be best for you. Now let’s get into the tips!
Cleaning Checklist
We decided not to include the obvious areas you would clean, such as your bed and kitchen counters, but rather, mention the areas you may be forgetting to add to your cleaning schedule. Please be sure to clean the following areas at the beginning of every season:
- Ceiling Fans
- Lights
- Drains
- Windows
- Washing Machines
- Kitchen Cabinets
- Mattresses
- Shower Curtains
Here are some printable cleaning schedules to help you out!
It is also extremely important that you clean your cleaning items as well! Be sure to get the extra dust off of your broom, and deep clean it by soaking it in a bucket with warm soapy water. Do not forget to disinfect the handle. If you have been using the same mop for a while now and you notice that it is starting to get very filthy, it might be a great idea to replace it so you will not be making the floors more germy.
Replacing Items
You will most likely be replacing your winter themed items with spring related items, so here are a few areas to focus on.
Wardrobe: Re-doing your wardrobe is an essential part of spring cleaning. When cleaning out your wardrobe, make sure you get rid of your winter neutral tones, especially black, and only keep the neutrals that you know you can pull off in the spring, such as whites and nudes. This will give your closet a more happier and lighter feel, which is what we are going for.
Makeup: Time to get rid of your deep red and berry-colored lipsticks! See this post on 13 Lipstick Colors to Wear in the Spring. This is also the perfect time to get rid of most of your neutral eyeshadows and buy some bolder, brighter shades! Lastly, check to see if you have a good highlighter that will really pop in the bright sunlight. This is an absolute must for the season!
Bookshelf: Many people love reading books in the natural light shining through their home during this time. If you are an avid reader, and your bookshelf is one of the top visited areas in your home, why not go for a color-coordinated bookshelf? To go a step further, you can even have one spring related book on display.
Make Your Home More Spring Appropriate
Along with cleaning and replacing your belongings, you can also utilize these additional tips to make your house scream spring! Many of these tips are inexpensive, so most people can follow through with these.
See-through curtains: Do not let the beautiful sunshine go to waste! You want a nice, well-lit up home during this season, and you can make this possible by using see-through curtains, preferably in white color. Drape curtains will be the best option, but you can go for regular curtains as well.
Fake plants: Indoor plants are known to reduce stress and make people happier in general. However, a number of people do not like having real plants in their house as you have to water them all the time. That is why we suggest fake plants! You can buy them in the dollar store and they will make your home a lot more cheerful and give it a natural feel. You are allowed to cheat from time to time!
Spray paint outdoor chairs: While you are purchasing fake plants from the dollar store, go ahead and buy yourself a few bottles of colorful spray paint as well! You can spray paint any of the furniture in your house, but we suggest outdoor chairs especially since you can easily store them away during the colder seasons when you won’t be sitting outside anyway. You can make them a bright yellow color, or even a subtle pastel blue.
And now you can start the spring cleaning process! Be sure to not put so much workload on one day and give yourself a light beverage break every few hours. We hope you enjoy your spring days, both inside and outside your home.
