It is here! The slightly tense but exciting time you were waiting for has arrived. It is time for you to move to a new city, and you have no idea where to start. You may have started saying your goodbyes, but you have not taken any other steps to plan your move. If this sounds like you, and you still have about three weeks left before you move, that is okay because we are here to provide you with some helpful tips to make moving easier!
From what to locate in your new city to warnings about movers, we are hopeful that you will leave this page with some useful info. We want to help you be as organized as possible so you can enter your new city with a big smile on your face!
1. Research the new city ahead of time.
You want to make sure that the city or town you are moving to is ideal for you. Therefore, it will be a good idea to look into the city’s culture, including what types of festivals take place, and any other programs you should be aware of before moving. While you are at it, search up the parks, libraries, post offices and any other governmental facilities you will need to use. Some people even utilize street view to get familiar with the roads. Lastly and most importantly, do not forget to search up the crime rate in the area you will be living!
2. Fulfill your general moving priorities.
You may or may not already have these on your calendar, but you definitely want to transfer your utilities, forward your mail, and gather your school and medical records ahead of time. Do not leave these for last minute!
3. Create a moving budget.
If you do not have a moving budget planned out, you will be very frustrated sooner or later. Before you know it, you will have spent too much money on takeout and will not have enough to pay your movers. Here is a helpful guide on setting your moving budget.
4. Research movers.
A couple of weeks before your move, have a look at the movers around your area and read the reviews. For more reliable service, you can ask your friends and colleagues about their experience with movers they may have used around your area. One important tip to keep in mind is that your movers should not ask you for a cash deposit before your move. If they do, the company may not be reliable and you definitely want to stay away from them.
5. Plan any additional services you will need.
While moving houses, you may come across a lot of items that you do not want to bring into your new home, but you also do not want to get rid of them. This will be a great time to utilize a self storage unit! Storage units are a great option since you do not have to say goodbye to your sentimental items that you may have had for years, but you can also enjoy a clean and spacious home! Here are some packing hacks for moving items into a self storage unit.
Now you are all set to move to your new city! Be sure to get involved in as many activities as possible so you can make lots of friends. Introduce yourself to your neighbors and maybe they will inform you more about the city. We are sure that you will have a great time wherever you move to!
